Pois é, tenho andado um bocadinho afastada do meu blog querido...ele precisa de um bocadinho de amor. O mês de Dezembro tem passado a correr, com mil e uma coisas para fazer. A contagem decrescente já começou e eu, como é costume, estou ligeiramente atrasada ;) como estou concentrada em projectos pequeninos (coroa de pompons, tricot para bebés, etc), pode ser que tudo corra bem. E vocês, o que andam a fazer nesta época natalícia?

That's right, I've been away from my dear blog...it needs a little bit of love. The month of December has been flying by and I have lots of things to do. The countdown has started and I, as usual, am a little bit late ;) but, as I'm focused on little projects (pompom wreath, knitting for babies, etc), it all might be ok in the end. And you, what are you making in this Christmas time?

Um gorro muito especial

O meu Papá fez anos em Outubro e eu quis dar-lhe uma prendinha especial :) Há muito que ele se queixava do frio que sentia nas orelhas durante o Inverno, mesmo quando usava um gorro ou chapéu. O gorro Ganomy da Elizabeth Zimmerman rapidamente se revelou o gorro ideal para o meu Papá durante a minha pesquisa. Ele gostou muito dele e até posou com ele numa divertida sessão fotográfica...com as orelhas quentinhas ;)

My daddy's birthday was in October and I wanted to give him a special present :) He had been "complaining" (not in a bad way) for a while about the cold his ears were during the winter, even when wearing a hat so. The Ganomy hat from Elizabeth Zimmerman quickly showed to be the ideal hat for my dad during my research. He really liked it and even posed with it on in a fun photo session...with his ears warmed up ;)

Este gorrinho "Pixie Hood" do livro Baby Beanies foi tudo o que tricotei nas últimas semanas...tenho andado doente, mas já me sinto melhor. Adoro tricotar para bebés porque é rápido e, normalmente, muito giro ;) Os fios que usei foram Malabrigo (natural) e Araucania (azul) que me tinha sobrado de um gorro que fiz para mim...este gorrinho é muito fofinho!

This little hat "Pixie Hood" from the book Baby Beanies was all that I've knitted in the past few weeks...I have been sick, but I feel better now. I love to knit for babies because it's quick and usually very cute ;) The yarn I used was Malabrigo (natural) and Araucania (blue tones) that I had left over from a hat I made for myself a few years ago...this little hat is very soft!

...e um dinossauro/dragão muito giro e entusiasmado com as abóboras, os meninos e meninas que vinham bater à porta, a sua primeira mini-ronda a bater à porta de alguns vizinhos...

Este ano tem sido um ano repleto de bebés...uma óptima desculpa para tricotar (como se eu precisasse de uma)! O casaquinho acima foi tricotado para a nossa sobrinha Emily, nascida em Setembro e é do livro "Early Arrivals 3" da Sirdar. O botão que usei é vintage

This year has been a year full of babies being born around us...a great excuse to knit (like I need one)! The cardigan above was knitted for our niece Emily, born in September and it's from the book "Early Arrivals 3" from Sirdar. The button I used is vintage.

Este casaquinho acima foi tricotado para a minha afilhada...em azul petróleo, com Debbie Bliss Aran. O botão que eu usei (e que adoro!) foi feito à mão e comprado no pomar da Patrícia.

The cardigan above was knitted for my goddaughter...in petrol blue, with Debbie Bliss Aran. The button that I used (and that I loved!) was handmade and bought at Patrícia's place.

Lembram-se de que a minha amiga Julie ía ter um bebé? Pois é, a Isabel já nasceu :) e não pára de receber prendinhas, algumas delas feitas pela sua madrinha babada... "moi" :) Eu adorei fazer especialmente o "Buga Baby Bunting", foi muito divertido!

Do you remember my friend Julie? She was having a baby...well, Isabel was born in August :) and she doesn't stop receiving presents, some of them handmade by her proud godmother..."moi" :) I especially loved making the "Buga Baby Bunting", it was a lot of fun!

Sweet Baby Shower

Há umas semanas atrás organisei um "baby shower" para a minha querida amiga Julie :) divertimo-nos muito e comemos muitas coisas boas...hoje a Julie deu à luz uma menina :) Estou muito feliz pela Julie e a sua família e mal posso esperar para conhecer a sua bebé! Que belo dia!

A few weeks ago I organised my friend Julie's baby shower :) we had fun and ate lots of very nice things...today Julie gave birth to a baby girl :) I'm really happy for Julie and her family and can't wait to meet their new bundle of joy! Happy days!

A minha amiga Julie queria continuar a celebrar o seu aniversário redondinho com uma visita a Londres neste mês de Maio...difícil como sou de convencer nestas circunstâncias, eu disse logo que sim, que lhe faria companhia :) Um dos meus momentos favoritos foi quando almoçámos num restaurante mexicano muito simpático (para além das compras, do espectáculo que vimos, etc,etc) ...adorei os churros!!

My friend Julie wanted to continue to celebrate her special birthday during this month of May with a visit to London...hard to convince as I am in thsese kind of circumstances, I said that I would go with her as soon as she asked me :) One of my favourite moments there was when we had lunch in a lovely mexican restaurant (and the shopping, and the show, etc,etc)...loved the churros!!

Outro grande acontecimento do mês de Maio por aqui foi a visita da minha amiga Patrícia e a sua família...a primeira visita que fizemos todos juntos foi a Glendalough, um dos meus sítios favoritos na Irlanda.

Another big event of the month of May was the visit of my friend Patricia and her family...the first place we visited together was Glendalough, one of my favourite places in Ireland.

Outro sítio que visitámos juntos foi o "Irish National Heritage Park" que, apesar de estar a ser renovado, foi muito divertido para os mais pequeninos pois tinha muitas actividades só para eles. Foi óptimo passar este tempo juntos!

Another place we visited together was the Irish National Heritage Park which, despite being renovated at the moment, was great fun for the kids because it had lots of activities just for the little ones. It was lovely to spend this time together!

Maio já está a acabar? :: Is May nearly over?

Há tanto tempo que não venho aqui...desde o principio do mês de Abril que tenho andado super-ocupada no trabalho (muitas mudanças) e com a família e amigos. Desculpem-me a ausência...prometo que vos vou contar tudo o que tenho andado a fazer já a seguir.

No princípio de Maio fomos até ao "Festival do Cordeirinho" em Roscommon (eu tinha que ir lá espreitar!) e estes foram os meus momentos favoritos...o primeiro foi quando fiz parte do grupo que bateu o record do mundo de tricotadeiras a tricotar ao mesmo tempo todas juntas no mesmo sítio :)

I haven't been here in such a long time...I have been really busy at work (a lot of changes) and with family and friends since the beginning of the month of April . Please forgive me...I promise I'll tell you all about what I've been doing now.

At the beggining of May we went up to Roscommon to the "Lamb Festival" (I had to see what it was all about!) and these were my favourite moments...the first one was when I was part of the group that bet the world record for the most knitters knitting in the same place :)

Adorei conhecer a Winnie e a sua loja ambulante...não é a loja de lãs (ambulante) mais fixe que já viram?

I loved to meet Winnie and her wool wagon...isn't that the coolest (portable) wool shop ever?
E...finalmente, o melhor momento (acho que os meus acompanhantes concordam comigo)...a corrida das ovelhas!!! Foi tão divertido (e nenhuma ovelha se aleijou) :)

And...finally, the best moment (I think my travel companions agree with me)...the sheep race!!! It was so much fun (and no sheep got hurt) :)

Páscoa Feliz :: Happy Easter

Hoje houve uma mini "caça ao ovo de chocolate" no nosso jardim...e um menino muito contente com a sua prendinha preferida, a galinha de chocolate (como se pode ver, já sem cabeça) :) Espero que tenham tido uma Páscoa muito feliz!

Today there was a "mini chocolate egg hunt" in our garden...and a very happy boy with his favourite little present, a chocolate chicken (as you can see, already headless) :) I hope everybody had a very happy Easter!

Demorei um pouco a fazer este xaile...o xaile das folhas. Foi muito interessante de tricotar, mas fui pondo-o de parte quando queria fazer outras coisas mais pequeninas. Foi a prenda da minha querida amiga Julie, que teve um aniversário muito redondinho este fim-de-semana ;)

It took me a "little" while to finish this shawl...the leaf shawl. It was very pleasant to knit, but I kept putting it aside every time I wanted to do something smaller. It was a present for my dear friend Julie, who had a very special birthday this weekend ;)

Energia :: Energy

Energia...preciso dela para acabar os trabalhos da universidade, para brincar o dia todo com o James, para fazer tudo o que há a fazer aqui em casa...para começar bem o dia. Que bem que sabiam agora umas fériazinhas...

Energy...I need it to finish my college essays, to play all day with James, to do the "million" things I have to do around the house...to start the day in a good way. Some holidays now would be just great...

A fatia de pão de coco que podem ver no meu prato do pequeno almoço desta manhã dá-me bastante energia, mas já a penúltima (fiz o pão ontem à noite)!!! Isto mostra a sua popularidade entre (todos) os membros da nossa família ;) É uma receita do meu australiano preferido, o Bill (Granger) e tirei-a de um programa de televisão...aqui fica. Experimentem fazê-la (é muito fácil e rápida) e boa semana!

The slice of coconut bread that you can see on my breakfast plate gives me a lot of energy but it was already the second last one (I baked the bread last night)!!! It shows how popular it is amongst (all) the members of our family ;) It's a recipe from my favourite Australian, Bill (Granger) and I saw it on tv...and here it is. Try to bake it (it's really easy & quick) and have a great week!

Pão de Côco do Bill/Bill's Coconut Bread

Ingredientes "secos"/dry ingredients

Peneire 2 chávenas e meia de farinha e 2 colheres de chá de pó royal/Sift 2 ½ cups of plain flour & 2 teaspoons of baking powder

1 chávena de açúcar fino/1 cup of caster sugar

1 colher de chá de canela/1 teaspoon of cinammon

150g de côco ralado/150g Shreded (or dessicated) coconut

Misture todos os ingredientes "secos" /Mix all the dry ingredients together.

Ingredientes líquidos/Wet ingredients

300 ml de leite/300 ml milk

2 ovos/2 eggs

Misture os dois juntos/Mix them together

Adicione uma dose considerável de essência de baunilha/Add a good dash of vanilla

Misture tudo junto com uma colher de pau. Adicione 75g de manteiga derretida. Ponha tudo numa forma ligeiramente untada. Vai ao forno a 180 graus durante mais ou menos uma hora.

Mix everything together with a wooden spoon. Add 75g of melted butter. Put everything in a lightly greased tin. It will take about 1 hour to bake at 180 degrees.

18 meses :: 18 months

O nosso pequenino já tem 18 meses...sim, 18! Eu também não acredito.
Ele está cada vez mais querido, fofinho e teimoso :) É muito activo (corre, trepa tudo...), fala muito (mas nós só percebemos aí 1% da conversa dele), come muito bem (sinceramente não tenho ideia de quem é que ele poderá ser parecido ;)) e, ultimamente, adora colorir e fazer os seus rabiscos com lápis de cera, brincar ao ar livre (de preferência com uma bola por perto) e explorar tudo o que é novo. O nosso pequenino está cada vez maior...

Our little one is 18 months already...yes, 18! I can't believe it either.
He's even mor cute, sweet and stuburn :) He's very active (he runs and climbs everything...), talks a lot (but we only get 1% of what he says), eats very well and a lot (I have no idea of whom he might be like ;)) and lately he loves to colour everything with his crayons, play outside (especially if there is a ball near by) and explore everything that looks new. Our little one is soooo grown up...

No passado fim-de-semana tricotei estas luvas sem dedos para a nossa querida amiga e babysitter Leslie. Ela é o máximo e nós adoramos dar-lhe prendinhas (estas para combinar com a Dolores Cowl que já lhe tinhamos dado - ver foto do post anterior) só para dizer obrigado :)

I knitted these fingerless mitts for our dear friend and babysitter Leslie last weekend. She is fantastic and we love giving her little presents (these ones to match the Dolores Cowl that we had given her already - see photo from the previous post) just to say thank you :)

Os dias lá fora têm estado assim... cinzentos e tristes(todos precisamos da Dolores Cowl na foto).
The days have been like this outside...grey and "sad" (we all need a Dolores Cowl like the one in the photo).

Mas cá dentro é uma alegria...gostamos de papar, brincar e até de limpar a casa com os nossos aspiradores ;)

But inside the house it's a happy day...we like to munch, to play and even to clean the house with our little hoovers ;)

O que tenho andado a fazer :: What I've been doing

É incrível, mas esta é a única fotografia que tenho das prendas de Natal que fiz...é um babete que bordei para a bebé Isla. Em ano de Natal em Portugal, é especialmente difícil para mim acabar todas as prendas na minha lista a tempo e horas e, por isso, a maior parte ficou por fotografar. Oh...houve um cachecol com bolsos, uma calorimetry, uma cowl, um gorro, entre outros...e uma cowl (para mim) que não ficou ao meu gosto e já foi desmanchada!

It's incredible, but this is the only picture I have from the Christmas presents I made...it's a bib I embroidered for baby Isla. In a year that we celebrate Christmas in Portugal, it's especially hard for me to finish all the presents on my to-do list on time so, because of that, most of them weren't photographed. Oh...there was a scarf with pockets, a calorimetry, a cowl, a hat, among others...and a cowl (for me) that I didn't like how it looked like and it's already frogged!

Agora estou a fazer uma honey cowl para mim, usando o super fofinho fio Andes da Debbie Bliss. Estou a adorar fazê-la...Feliz Ano Novo!

O primeiro Natal do James em Portugal :: James' First Christmas in Portugal

Foi passado a divertir-se com os tios (e primos, tias-avós, madrinhas-avós, amiguinhos, etc)...having fun with his uncles (and cousins, great-aunts, great-godmothers, etc)...

...a estorvar o bisavô Lopes que já estava com fome e mal podia esperar para chegar ao restaurante...in the way of great-grandad Lopes (who was already starving and couldn't wait to go to the restaurant)...

...a receber o primeiro Pai Natal de chocolate da Bisavó Emília...receiving his first chocolate Santa Claus from great-grandmother Emília...

...a ir ao circo e a adorar ver os tigres...going to the circus and loving the tigers...

...com o primeiro presente desembrulhado na manhã de Natal...with his first unwrapped present on Christmas morning...

...e a brincar com o avô e os (pobres) dos pássaros no quintal :) Inesquecível!...and playing with grandad and the (poor) birds in the back garden :) Unforgettable!

Fa la la la la la la la la...O Inverno chegou!

A nossa caminhada matinal foi assim hoje...já vai sendo um hábito. A paisagem é encantadora, mas nós nao arriscamos ir para o trabalho de carro (há muito gelo por debaixo desta neve linda e fofinha); como temos a sorte de trabalhar na vila, vamos a pé. A créche do James fica a caminho e ele é um dos poucos meninos que consegue chegar lá com este tempo. Ele parece uma bola de la com toda a roupa e acessórios em cima, mas adora ir brincar com os seus amiguinhos :)

Fa la la la la la la la la...The winter is here!

Our morning walk was like this today...it's becoming a habit. The landscape is beautiful but we didn't want to take the risk of going to work by car (there's a lot of ice under that fluffy, beautiful snow); because we're lucky to work in the town, we walk to work. James' créche it's on the way and he's one of the few children that make it there with this weather. He looks like a ball of wool with all the clothes he's wearing but he loves to go there & play with his little friends :)

O Pebble do James

Estou muito contente com o resultado...tricotei o "Pebble" do James em menos de 1 semana e foi super fácil. A lã que usei é Debbie Bliss Rialto Aran em cor-de-laranja e os botões são verde-aqua da caixinha de botões que herdei da minha avó Ana :)

I'm very happy with the result...I knitted James' "Pebble" in less than 1 week and it was super-easy. The yarn I've used is Debbie Bliss Rialto Aran in orange and the buttons are aqua-green form the button box I inhereted from my grandmother Ana :)

This was the first time that James dressed up for Halloween...Our dear little Spider Boy had a full day, playing and collecting sweets (more to see than actually to eat) ;)

First time in the local park

No fim-de-semana passado o nosso pequenino foi ao parque pela primeira vez (sem estar a dormir no seu carrinho de bebé)...Adorou ver e "falar" com os outros meninos, experimentar alguns divertimentos e andar por todo o lado ;) Foi muito divertido!

Last weekend our little one went to the park for the first time (without being asleep in his pram)...He loved seeing and "talking" with the other kids and walking everywhere ;) It was a lot of fun!

O primeiro corte de cabelo...First hair cut

O sr James estava a ficar com o cabelo muito comprido (era já o bebé mais cabeludo da creche)...estava na altura do seu primeiro corte de cabelo! Mal tinha acabado de acordar da sua sesta da manhã, já estava a ser privado de parte do seu cabelo num cabeleireiro especializado em pequeninos :) Depois, contente com o resultado, continuou com a sua agenda de fim-de-semana...

Mr James' hair was getting very long (he was already the hairiest baby in the crèche)...it was time for his first haircut! He had just woken up from his morning nap, when he found himself being separated from part of his lovely hair :) After that, happy with the result, he continued with his plans for the weekend...

Às vezes penso que as minhas mãos são deslumbrantes... Gosto especialmente de as usar para tricotar, para "falar", para fazer bolos, para passar no cabelo e bochechas do James, para comer, para tocar e agora para coser :) Eu adorei o workshop da Rosa, do qual fiz parte durante as minhas férias em Portugal neste Verão...fizemos esta pequena almofadinha de alfinetes com tecidos portugueses tradicionais. Adorei! Agora "só" tenho que fazer o (já muito atrasado) trabalho de casa... as minhas mãos estão muito ocupadas, temos que agendar isto!!

Sometimes I think my hands are amazing... I especially like to use them to knit, to "talk", to bake, to feel James' hair and cheeks, to eat, to touch and now to sew :) I loved Rosa's workshop that I took part during my holidays in Portugal this summer...we made this little pin cushion with traditional portuguese fabrics. Loved it! Now I "just" need to do the (long due) homework... my hands are too busy, we need to schedule this!!

Finalmente acabei o casaquinho de Verão do James...é uma pena que ele (o James) não esteja disponível para fazer de modelo neste momento (está doentinho, embora bem-disposto). Adorei fazer este casaquinho "raglan" (sem costuras) de algodão (modelo da Lisa na "This is Knit"), mas algodão não chega aos pés de Malabrigo (a lã à qual não consigo resisitir) ;) Agora só falta aqui o Verão...

Ummm...cupcakes :)

Sim, eu devo ser a última pessoa a "cair na tentação" dos queques, mas estou totalmente rendida! Já algum tempo que andava a pensar fazer queques com cobertura que aqui se chamam cupcakes e, durante a minha pesquisa, já tinha provado muitos ;) mas não foi até folhear as páginas do livro "Cupcakes from the Primrose Bakery" (já um dos meus favoritos) que finalmente me rendi. Aqui está a minha primeira tentativa: queques de baunilha com cobertura de Lima e Coco...uau! Sabem ainda melhor depois de umas semanas um pouco duras...o nosso bebé doente pela primeira vez (já está totalmente recuperado) e o meu regresso ao trabalho ;)

Ok, maybe I'm the last person that "fell" for cupcakes but I'm totally surrendered! I wanted to make some for a while and, during my "research", had tasted lots ;) but it wasn't until I looked through the book Cupcakes from the Primrose Bakery (one of my favourites now) that I finally surrendered. Here is my first attempt: vanilla cupcakes with Lime & Coconut Buttercream...Wow! They taste even better after a couple of rough weeks...our baby being sick for the first time (totally recovered now) and my return to work ;)

Pois é, o nosso bebé já tem 8 meses! Está tão crescido...já vai para a créche, gosta muito de comer a para sózinho (mas se for peixe ou sopa faz caretas ;)), não para um segundo (rebola, rebola, rebola...e tenta gatinhar), fala muito (diz "dada", "gaga" e um "milhão" de outros sons e palavras que nós ainda não sabemos o que quer dizer ;)), é muito curioso e, normalmente, muito sorridente. Hoje foi passear ao parque com a mamã, o vovô e a vovó e "andou" pela primeira vez de baloiço :)

That's right, our baby is 8 months old already! He's so grown up...he goes to creche now, loves to eat, especially by himself (but if there's fish or soup in the menu, he makes some funny faces ;)), doesn't stop for one second (rolls over and over and over...and tries to crawl), talks a lot (he says "dada", "gaga" and a "million" of other sounds and "words" that we don't know yet ;)), is very curious and, normally, very smilie. Today he went to the park with mamã, vovô and vovó and went on the swing for the first time

Para além dos ovos de chocolate e das amêndoas sempre presentes na nossa Páscoa, este ano decidi adicionar os doces "macaroons"...deliciosos em três sabores - laranja, limão e menta :)

Besides the chocolate eggs and sweet almonds that are always present in our Easter, this year I've decided to add the sweet macaroons...delicious in three flavours - orange, lemon & mint :) The recipe I've used is in the April issue of Delicious magazine.

O meu bebé está tão crescido :) Come de tudo (adora comida), senta-se, rebola (está sempre a rebolar), tenta gatinhar, adora música, "ler" livros, brincar com os seus brinquedos relacionados com carros e ver os desenhos animados dos "Little Einsteins" e "Rato Mickey" na televisão. Não dorme muito...já está a acordar. tenho que ir. Tchau, tchau.

My baby is so grown up :) He eats everything (he loves food), sits up, rolls over (all the time), tries to crawl, loves music, to"read" books, to play with car related toys and to watch "Little Einsteins" & "Mickey Mouse" cartoons on tv. Doesn't sleep much...he's waking up already. Got to go. Bye

Eu só vos queria mostrar o que eu tenho andado a fazer com o meu (pouco) tempo livre...Eu tento manter-me em contacto com o mundo lá fora, mas quando estou cá dentro de casa, há muito pouco tempo para fazer alguma coisa (para além de tomar conta do James). Estou a tentar adaptar-me a esta nova situação (mantendo o meu saco de tricot sempre no sofá, com alguns projectos em andamento), mas as coisas por aqui andam um bocadinho devagar, literalmente! Um projecto pequeno como esta Cowl acima levou-me quase um mês a completar!?! De qualquer maneira...apesar dos meus prazos serem "esticados" vezes sem conta, este pequeno projecto está pronto a tempo de ir aquecer um pescoço querido muito em breve :) A lã que usei foi Malabrigo chunky (comprada na loja fabulosa Imagiknit em São Francisco quando lá fomos no final de 2008), uma maravilha de se trabalhar...e as cores? São um sonho!
Não é a primeira vez que faço uma Cowl com esta lã (fiz outra em tons de cinzento no Verão passado, também para oferecer), mas não tive a oportunidade de tirar fotografias....

I just wanted to show you what I've been doing with my (little) free time...I try to keep in contact with the world outside our house but, when I'm inside it there's little time to do anything (besides taking care of James). I'm trying to adapt to this new situation (that's why my knitting bag is always on the couch, with one or two projects on the go) but things here are very slow, literally! A small project like this Cowl above took me nearly a month to finish!?! Anyway...despite my deadlines being stretched so many times, this little project is on time, ready to warm a dear neck very very soon :) The yarn I used was Malabrigo Chunky (bought in the fabulous shop Imagiknit in San Francisco when we went there at the end of 2008), wonderful to work with...and the colours? They're a dream!
This was not the first time that I knited a Cowl with this yarn (I made a beautiful one last summer in grey tones to give as a present as well), but I didn't get the chance to take pictures of it...

...é assim...preciso de mais tempo! 24 horas não são suficientes no meu dia....não são suficientes para tricotar, para tirar fotos, para ler, para escrever, enfim...tem que ser aos poucos :) A fotografia acima foi a única que tirei das várias peças (pequeninas) que tricotei para oferecer no Natal passado :)

...that's it...I need more time! 24 hours are not enough in my day...they're not enough to knit, to take fotos, to read, to write, anyway...it has to be little by little :) The photo above was the only picture I took to the (little) pieces I knitted to give as present last Christmas :)

James' first holidays in Portugal

Chegámos de avião e não de cão voador...esta foi "só" mais uma das "montanhas" de prendas que o James recebeu neste Natal em Portugal :)

We arrived by plane, even if it seems that we went over by "flying dog"...that was "just" one more present,from the "mountains" that James received this Christmas,this time in Portugal :)

O James também recebeu abraços, sorrisos, beijinhos, miminhos sem fim de primos, avós, bisavós, tios, tios-avós, madrinhas, padrinhos e amigos...ufa tanta gente que gosta do nosso bebé e ele adorou tudo e todos!! :)

James also received lots of hugs, smiles and kisses from cousins, grandparents, great-grandparents, uncles & aunties, great-uncles & aunties, godparents and friends...oh so many people that loves our baby and he loved everything and everybody!! :)

E claro que houve tempo para conviver com a família e amigos à volta de mesas bem recheadas...não resisti a tirar uma fotografia da bolacha-ovelha que a minha prima Ana Luísa fez especialmente para mim :) não é o máximo?

Of course we had time to spend around good food with the family and friends...I couldn't resist and took a picture of the sheep-biscuit that my cousin Ana Luísa made especially for me :) isn't it cute?

Acho que posso falar pelo James ao dizer que ele se divertiu imenso e adorou conhecer toda a gente :) Agora imaginem como é que vai ser no Verão com bom tempo, praia, ainda mais família à volta dele (incluindo primos pequeninos), etc, etc...

I think I can speak for James when I say that he had a great time and loved meeting everybody :) Now imagine how is it going to be in the summer with the good weather, trips to the beach, more family (including little cousins), etc, etc...

Ontem foi um dia em cheio...o dia do "Knitting & Stitching Show" em Dublin (uma feira enorme de hobbies com mostras, lojas e workshops em tricot, ponto cruz, patchwork, scrapbooking, postais feitos à mão, etc, etc)!! Oh...eu estava no céu, só a minha carteira é que sofreu um bocadinho (ok, talvez muito) :)

Yesterday we went to the "Knitting & Stitching Show" in Dublin (a great textile exhibition with workshops, demonstrations & shops covering knitting, cross-stitch, patchwork, scrapbooking, card-making, etc, etc)!! oh...I was in heaven, only my wallet suffered a little (ok, maybe a lot) :)

Foi fantástico, como sempre...o contacto com as pessoas, as novas técnicas e produtos disponíveis, as compras, o convívio com as amigas (da esquerda para a direita na foto em baixo, Stela, Litícia e Julieta) é espectacular! Diverti-me muito e a contagem decrescente para o próximo ano já começou ;)

It was fantastic, as always...the networking, the new techniques and products available, the shopping, spending time with friends (from the left in the picture below, Stela, Litícia and Julieta) was spectacular! I had a lot of fun and already started the countdown for next year's event ;)

O livro do Bambi era um dos meus favoritos quando eu era pequenina. A personagem que eu mais adorava era (e é) o Tambor, o coelhinho mais querido do mundo :) Com a chegada do bebé mais querido do mundo, foi fantástico receber uma prendinha "Tambor" das minhas fofinhas tia Qué e priminha Ana Luísa :) Adoro vestir o meu bebé com fatinhos giros e este é especial...

Bambi was one of my favourite books when I was growing up. I loved (and still do) Thumper, the sweetest rabbit in the world :) With the arrival of the sweetest baby in the world, it was fantastic to receive a "Thumper" present from my lovely aunt Qué and cousin Ana Luísa :) I love to dress up my baby with cute outfits and this one is special...

Eu não acredito...o nosso bebé já tem um mês!! O nosso pequenino está cada vez maior (especialmente as bochechas ;)) e mais reguila :) Ele adora comer (a sério, é um comilão), dormir, e brincar com o seu elefante roxo (oferecido pela sua priminha Eimear). É muito querido e practicamente só chora quando tem fome...por falar nisso, está na hora, tenho que ir. Beijinhos

I can't belive it...our baby is one month old!! Our little baby is growing so much (especially his cheecks ;)) and is so active :) He loves to eat (really, you should see it), sleep and to play with his purple elephant (a present from his cousin Eimear). He's very sweet and only cries when he's hungry...oh...I think it's time for his "meal", I have to go. Kisses

O James adorou passar as duas últimas semanas com o avô Ramiro e a avó Zézinha :)

James loved to spend the last two weeks with his grandad Ramiro and grandma Zézinha :)

...ele gostou muito de passear com eles no seu carrinho novo...

...he enjoyed going around with them in his new pram...

...mas também lhes deu a oportunidade de usufruirem do sol (coisa rara na Irlanda, ele já ouviu dizer) enquanto ele dormia...

...but he also gave them the oportunity of enjoying the sun (he already heard it doesn't come out much here in Ireland) while he was sleeping...

...oh como ele adorou o colinho doce da avó Zézinha...

No intervalo de tudo isto, ele dormia umas sestas e apreciava os cortinados e bolsinha que a avó Zézinha fez para o seu quartinho :) Foi o máximo!! Ele mal pode esperar por Dezembro para estar com os seus avózinhos outra vez...a contagem decrescente já começou! :)

In the middle of all this, he slept little naps and enjoyed the curtins and other handmade things grandma Zézinha made for his room :) It was great!! He can't wait to December to see his grandparents again...the countdown is on! :)

Eu não sei o que vocês acham, mas parece que há um "baby boom" este ano. Talvez seja o facto de eu estar grávida que me faz reparar que há mais bebés à minha volta...ou talvez haja mesmo mais bebés à nossa volta (no mundo da nossa família e amigos) :)

Hoje fomos conhecer uma bebé adorável...Sophie, uma já "celebridade" local (porque decidiu vir ao mundo antes dos seus pais chegarem ao hospital ;))! Divertimo-nos muito com a Sophie e a família dela; só espero que ela goste dos seus presentes (as botinhas vermelhas serviam-lhe, o que não acreditava ser possível quando lhes estava a dar os toques finais ontem à noite)...eu adorei fazê-los!

I don't know what you think about this but it seems to be a baby boom at the moment. Maybe it's just because I'm pregnant, I notice that there are a lot of babies around...or maybe there's just more babies around (in our family/friends world) :)

Today we met a lovely little one...Sophie, an already local "celebrity" (because she decided to be born before her parents reached the hospital ;))! We had a great time with Sophie & their family; I just hope she liked her presents (the little red shoes did fit her, which is something I didn't believe it would happen when I was finishing them up last night)...I loved making them!

Pois é...nos últimos dias os quadrados têm "dominado" o meu tempo, de uma maneira positiva :) Comecei a coser os quadradinhos da mantinha que fiz para o bebé do livro "Baby knits for beginners" da Debbie Bliss (está quase, quase pronta) e hoje passei a manhã a fazer brownies com a nossa sobrinha Keara - foi muito divertido :) Se ao menos fizesse um bocadinho de sol...

Aqui está a receita dos Brownies (faz 16 brownies):

Ingredientes

175g margarina
350g açúcar fininho
1 colher de sobremesa de essência ou extracto de baunilha
3 ovos
125g de farinha
1 colher de sobremesa de fermento em pó
50g cacau
175g nozes

Use uma forma de 22x30x2.5cm oblong e aqueça o seu forno a 180ºC.

Ponha a forma sobre uma folha de papel vegetal. Desenhe à sua volta e corte o rectângulo.
Barre a forma com margarina. Ponha o papel vegetal na forma e barre-o com margarina (eu usei uma forma de silicone - não foi necessário usar margarina e/ou papel vegetal). Depois ligue o seu forno.
Derreta a margarina num tacho em lume brando. Ponha-a numa taça e adicione o açúcar e a baunilha.
Bata os ovos numa taça pequena e adicione-os à taça grande pouco a pouco. Misture bem.
Peneire a farinha e adicione-a à taça grande, assim como ao fermento em pó e ao cacau. Misture tudo muito bem.
Corte as nozes em pedacinhos. Adicione-as à mistura e misture tudo muito bem.
Ponha o preparado na forma e leve ao forno por 40 minutos.
Os brownies estarão prontos quando tiverem crescido e formarem uma crosta no topo. Eles ainda devem estar fofinhos no interior.
Deixe os brownies na forma por 5 minutos e depois corte-os em 16 quadrados. Deixe-os arrefecer por alguns minutos.

Yes...in the last few days squares have "dominated" my time, in a positive way :) I started sewing the little squares of a blanket I made for the baby from the book "Baby knits for beginners" from Debbie Bliss (it's almost, almost ready) and today I baked brownies with our niece Keara - it was fun and the brownies were delicious :) If only the sun would pay us a visit...

Here's the brownies recipe (it makes 16):

Ingredients

175g margarine
350g caster sugar
1 teaspoon of vanilla essence or extract
3 eggs
125g plain flour
1 level teaspoon of baking powder
50g cocoa
175g walnuts

Use a 22x30x2.5cm oblong tin and heat your oven to 180ºC, 350ºF, gas mark 4.

Put your tin onto a piece of greaseproof paper or baking parchment. Draw around it and cut out the rectangle.
Grease the tin with some margarine on a paper towel. Lay the paper in the tin and grease the top of it (I used a silicone "tin", so there's no need to grease it up or use paper). Then, turn on your oven.
Put the margarine into a pan and melt it over a low heat. Pour into a mixing bowl, then add the sugar and vanilla.
Break the eggs into a small bowl and beat them. Add them to the large bowl, a little at a time. Beat them in well.
Sift the flour into the bowl and add the baking powder and the cocoa. Stir everything together so that it is mixed well.
Put the walnuts onto a chopping board and cut them into small pieces. Add them to the mixture and stir it well again.
Pour the mixture into the tin and smooth the top with the back of a spoon. Bake it for about 40 minutes.
The brownies are ready when they have risen and a crust has formed on top. They should still be soft in the middle.
Leave the brownies in the tin for five minutes, then cut them into 16 squares. Leave them on a wire rack to cool.

Doug & Sarah's wedding

Durante o fim-de-semana prolongado, fomos até ao condado de Cork para o casamento do Doug e da Sarah...foi tão bonito! A casa de campo onde ficámos era giríssima, de estilo antigo, rodeada de animais simpáticos ;) e a poucos kilómetros de Ballycotton, onde a cerimónia se realizou na igreja "estrela do mar".

Over the bank holiday weekend we went down to Co. Cork for Doug & Sarah's wonderful wedding! The country house hotel where we stayed was lovely, decorated in an old fashion charming way, surrounded by very friendly animals ;) and not too far from Ballycotton, where the cerimony took place in the church "star of the sea".

A noiva estava lindíssima e o ambiente era mágico...foi um dia inesquecível! E, mais "importante" ainda...vejam só o tamanho da minha barriga a meras 3 semanas da data prevista para o nascimento do nosso "rebento"! :) Acho que o meu nome agora é "Glória, a hipopótama" (do filme Madagascar) ;)

The bride looked stunning and the air was magical...it was a day to remember! And, more "importantly"...have you seen the size of my belly 3 weeks before the due date? :) I think my name now should be "Gloria, the hippo" (from "Madagascar", the movie) ;)

Mas o tamanho da barriga não nos impediu (a mim e ao bebé) de dançar "toda a noite" com os nossos amigos :) foi muito divertido!

But the size of the belly didn't stop me and the baby from dancing "all night long" with our friends :) we had lots of fun!

A walk in the Woods

Ontem o tempo estava bom (= não estava a chover e o sol até apareceu algumas vezes...) e o Tom tinha o dia livre, por isso resolvemos ir dar uma caminhada no bosque de Oughaval que fica a 30 minutos de Carlow. Adorei os cheiros, o ar puro e o exercício "light" :) Acho que vamos voltar...especialmente o Tom, que anda a correr com os amigos várias vezes por semana, já estava a imaginar que percurso é que eles íam escolher para correr no bosque :)

Yesterday the weather was nice (= it wasn't raining and the sun showed up some times...) and Tom had a day off so we decided to go for a walk in the Oughaval Woodland that is 30 minutes away from Carlow. I loved the smells, the fresh air and the light exercise :) I think we're going to comeback...especially Tom, who's running several times a week with his friends - he was already imagining which path they would choose for their run in the woods :)

Pois é...estar em casa é, por vezes, um pouco difícil. Pelo menos para mim não tem sido muito fácil nas últimas 2 semanas...estou sempre um bocadinho cansada, mas tento manter-me ocupada. Esta semana, as minhas actividades favoritas foram tricotar (botinhas para bebés) e cozinhar (especialmente o bolo de maçã e canela...já que o tempoé de Inverno, porque não os sabores também?) :)

That's right...being at home is, sometimes, not too easy. At least for me it hasn't been too easy for me in the last 2 weeks...I'm always a bit tired, but trying to keep myself busy. This week, my favourite activities were knitting (baby bootees) & cooking (especially the apple & cinammon cake...if the weather is like winter, why not the flavours as well?) :)

I'm still here...

Sim, ainda estou por aqui :) Não tenho dado notícias por falta de tempo, pela presença irritante da alergia ao sol que quase me levou à loucura (está quase, quase a desaparecer) e agora pela adaptação ao decanso imposto pela minha médica devido ao stress sofrido no trabalho! Ufa...têm sido umas semanas mirabolantes! Bom, agora estou de volta...mais redondinha do que nunca :) Bom fim-de-semana a todos!

Eu fiz uma pequena visita ao meu país natal (iuppi!)...só para mostrar a "barriga" à família, passar algum tempo com os amigos, gozar o sol e comer "montanhas" de cerejas :) Oh...foi bom, mas voltei à Irlanda com uma espécie de alergia ao sol :( Tenho comichão, mas estou feliz porque estas mini-férias forma o máximo :)

So I went home for a little while (yay!)...just to show the "bump" to the family, spend some time with friends, enjoy the sun and eat lots of cherries :) Oh...it was nice but I came back with a rash, supposably caused by the sun :( I'm itchy but happy becaused I had a great time :)

Então não é que tivemos um fim-de-semana solarengo aqui na ilha Esmeralda? É verdade...e quando eu não estive a trabalhar, a visitar amigos e a sonhar com a praia que vou visitar no próximo fim-de-semana, houve tempo para algumas arrumações (estamos a reorganizar algumas coisas cá em casa para acolher o rebento daqui a alguns meses) e sobremesas "de fazer água na boca" (numa quinta de frutos "vermelhos" não muito longe daqui)...e o vosso fim-de-semana, como foi?

So, we actually had a sunny weekend here on the Emerald island. It's true...and when I wasn't working, visiting friends and dreaming with the beach I'm going to next weekend, there was time for some tidying up (we're re-organising some things in our house to welcome our baby in a few months) and wonderful desserts (in a red berries farm not too far from here)...how was your weekend?
